Bean Bag Chair vs. Bungee Chair

This is a close look at a green striped bungee chair and an orange bean bag chair.

Bungee chairs, also known as trampoline chairs, are a new rage. They have office chair versions and various casual versions from folding round or hex or impact versions with canvas. But then there is the bean bag that can come with a bed inside or even hold two people like a loveseat. So, which is better: the bean bag chair or the bungee chair?

Bean bag chairs and bungee chairs have various pros and cons. The bean bag is a much cozier option in winter, where a bungee chair is excellent for summer. Bungee chairs are more portable but have a 225lb limit. Bean bag chairs can double as loveseats or hide beds, and some hold up to 700 pounds.

When deciding between a bean bag chair and a bungee chair, it depends on what you need the chair for and how you plan to use it. It also depends on your body type. For example, if your knees are a bit tricky, you might prefer a tall-style bungee chair rather than a bean bag that sits low to the ground. A heavier build might prefer a bean bag. It all depends.

Bean Bag Chair Vs. Bungee Chair In The Office

This is a meeting inside the office with people sitting on bean bags and desk chairs.

In a traditional office setting, the bungee chair beats a bean bag chair. It is the only one of the two with a product that looks like a conventional office chair. But for a casual workspace, or one looking to have areas that promote relaxation, the bean bag can be a great choice.

There are other versions. For example, there is a similar design without arms.  For those that prefer a high back, there is the Euro Style with arms.

Bean bags can also be excellent choices for breakrooms.

Just as places of work are being reimagined, so is the traditional classroom setting. Schools are becoming more sensitive to children’s different ways of learning and are gaining a greater understanding of students’ mental health challenges and needs.

Bungee chairs in the classroom have a few advantages. Firstly, they move (bounce) without zooming around the room. Many children need to fidget, but if their ball chair escapes its stand, this can be incredibly distracting for the other students.

Another big advantage is bungee chairs durability. Yes, the initial cost might be more than other alternative seating options. But these things last. Where most bean bag chairs are going to need to be refilled.

Lastly, unlike a bean bag, bungee chairs are easy to put in a new spot, transitioning from the desk to the back areas of mat time with minimal chaos.

Some find an impact canopy bungee chair a bit easier for more extended periods of sitting, as it avoids the waffle bum. But some feel they get a better fit with a more spiderweb design. Older students might want something with more back and neck support, such as the Hex designs.

Some kids are not comfortable with the exposed back of the bungee chair. They want a warm comfy hug, and a bean bag provides it. While they are difficult to use at a traditional desk, they can be excellent choices for breakout areas. Some models are structured, such as this one by posh creations and this cute and more affordable option from Big Joe.

But sometimes you just want squooshy goodness such as these Flash Furniture bean bags. Many bean bags double up as storage, such as this unicorn option.

When it comes to camping, your standard bean bag is too heavy and bulky to be a practical choice. Also, the stuffing can get moldy if anybody sits in it wet.

The touted camping alternative to the bean bag is the inflatable lounger that blends the comfort of a bean bag with a hammock. These are easy to pack and allow people to stretch out and worship the sun or take a well-needed nap. Two well-rated and colorful brands are the Chillbo and the AlphaBeing.

Bungee chairs are versatile chairs for the home, quickly transitioning from indoors to outdoors. But, for those only looking for outdoor patio furniture, Timber Ridge is the winner, by far. They are well-loved for their Zero Gravity designs and are often built to hold bigger bodies.

Bungee chairs are also a wonderful option for gaming and give excellent back support, such as the well-beloved Harvill. But when it comes to living room aesthetics, options such as this back and silver round chair and this padded grey are great choices. Bunjo continues to win in the kids’ department, though.

When it comes to coziness, the bean bag is tough to beat. They can often hold heavier bodies than your bungee chair and also allow cuddling, such as Ultimate Sack that even has a footstool. Plus, models such as the Yogibo Max and the Jaxx Cocoon are soothing, made for unwinding and leaving all your anxiety behind.

Bean bags are also the perfect option for those needing multifunctional furniture. For example, CordRoy’s bean bag with its hidden bed eliminates the need for uncomfortable futons.  They can also be a delightful way to provide a child with storage and a place to lounge, such as this fabulous shark bean bag.
